Here's the episode transcript
Hey, friend. Today I wanna offer you a prayer for when you're going through the middle of something, when you're in the midst of it, when things are hard and you're not yet sure how everything is going to resolve. When life feels uncertain and you need to find your footing, this is a prayer that I turn to and I invite you to turn to as well. It comes from Isaiah 43 and I'm gonna pick it up halfway through verse 1 and read through just the beginning part of verse 3. The original audience of this passage was Israel. But as those who've received Jesus, adopted and grafted in as part of God's family, we can pray these verses and know that they're true of us, too.
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name. You are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up. The flames will not consume you, for I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior."
God, we thank You that this is true of You, that You are the holy God. You are the Lord, our Savior, and You have ransomed us. You have put Your name on us, and you have said we are Yours, and we proclaim that back to You, God. We are Yours.
God, I thank You that when I go through deep waters, You're with me, that when I go through difficulty, it won't overtake me. That when I go through oppression, it won't consume me because of You, not of me.
And Lord, we bring the heavy things. We bring the rivers of difficulty. We bring the fire of oppression. We bring the deep waters to You, Lord. We ask for Your help. We ask for You to help us not be afraid, but to rely on You, to see how You are here caring for us as we walk through it. We thank You, God, that as we go through these hard things, You are here with us. Make us aware of Your presence, even here in this heavy place.
And that's a prayer I invite you to take to the Lord today, too. As you talk with Him about what you're facing in the middle of the hard thing, tell Him about it. Don't hold back. And ask Him to show you how He's there, present and active with you.
God, I know you're my savior. I believe that You're here with me. Please show me one of the ways I can notice Your presence here.
Have a good talk.
